Here’s a nice way to kick off the holiday season. This Sunday, at 5 p.m., there is going to be an interfaith Thanksgiving service sponsored by the Forest Hills Interfaith Dialogue. The one-hour service will feature elements from both Christian and Jewish traditions. Refreshments will follow. Participating organizations include:
The Church in the Gardens
The First Prebyterian Church of Forest Hills
The Forest Hills Jewish Center (hosting the event)
Grace Lutheran Church
Our Lady of the Angelus R.C. Church
Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs R.C. Church
The Reform Temple of Forest Hills
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church

First, thank you for posting this information, which I did not see elsewhere (as I am not a regular congregant in any house of worship). And thank you for attaching a downloadable flier. ‘Very handy to post and pass on.
Now, as to the event. It was a wonderfully inclusive gathering that was uplifting and downright joyous. While there was a program, there were lots of spontaneous moments, too — audience children participated unrehearsed, for example. There was lots of laughter, applause and singing.
A collection was taken for the victims of California wildfires. And the program finale was the entire congregation of participants singing America the Beautiful — ‘almost brought me to tears. The event literally included those from ‘sea to shining sea’.
This is a must for me in coming years, and I hope for many of my neighbors in Forest Hills, as well.
