Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie, and Knishes

knisherie_image.jpgAccording to the Daily News, Knish Nosh is looking to go national. Haig Schneiderman, who has owned the place up on Queens Blvd. and 67th Rd. since 2000, hopes to establish franchises in far-flung places like Texas and the Rockies. Also in California and Florida. That part I get, but Texas??

“I see us as almost like a Dunkin’ Donuts or a Starbucks,” said Schneiderman, who has already opened seasonal kiosks in Manhattan and Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, along with a bona fide Knish Nosh in Delray Beach, Fla…..He said he believes the protein-packed knish is a “healthy, fast, casual meal” that can go toe to toe in the economic ring with famous waistline-busters like the taco, the hamburger and fried chicken.”

Just what this country needs more of. The Daily News refers to it as “Jewish soul food”; do you think the new Wild West Knish Noshes will import some Forest Hills natives to give it an ethnic flavor?

Growing up in Bensonhurst, I became a fan of knishes.(mustard on the top is the way I like them best.) Hy Tulip on 86st and 20th Ave. was the best place to get them. Of course the corner hot dog stand always had them as well in the city.(a thing of the past)
square or round? any shape is great!! Would be very interested in opening a franchise in Harrisburg PA.
    any information?

Thanks for sharing your memories! I’m a mustard-on-top person too, and also loved ’em square or round. I love living near a place that still makes them great.

To answer your question, I would recommend contacting Knish Nosh to find out about franchise information. Just hit the link in the post to get to its Web site. And let us (Splitting Hairs) know if you actually go through with it. If we ever get to Harrisburg, we’ll know where to get our fix!

    Best of luck.
