Signs of Life Up on the Hill

I’m talking about the hill, perhaps the only one, that puts the Hill in Forest Hills. Queens Blvd. and 67th Ave. is an area that goes largely ignored unless you live around there or need a place to work because the B&N Starbucks is already filled with freelancers (now there’s a good candidate for congestion pricing). Anyway, Starbucks III should have been our first clue that something more than just bitter coffee was brewing up there. Indeed, it’s hard to see amid all the nondescript (and often foreign script) stores in that part of the neighborhood, but change is in the air, and not just the renaissance Knish Nosh and this-century Dunkin’ Donuts.

Tucked away at the top of 67th Ave., north side of QB, is a short row of unremarkable stores—a shoe repair shop, a dry cleaner, and so forth. But something new is being inserted into the row, and so far the only hints are a high vertical green banner with knock-out white type that reads Whole Food Fusion and workman busy renovating the store on a Saturday.

Does anyone know anything about this? To be continued, we desperately hope!

Whatever it is, it’s got to be good! I live right nearby, I saw the sign the other day too. I will post again as we see what’s going in. Natural food shop maybe? Seems odd as there is one only a few blocks away.

    Jane,
I was thinking, too, that it might be a natural food shop. How great would that be? Especially if it’s big and has a real selection (I love the folks at Organic World, but the inventory is light). Please let us know what’s happening over there. In everyone’s obsession with Austin Street, this area is all but forgotten.

    Thanks for posting–

I would like to know too what is going in where that kosher chicken place used to be on QB. I forget the name of it – I only tried it once, that was enough! Also the Rite Aid is closing at 67 and QB. I hope that space does not sit empty.
