Is This Really Queens?

Usually, the beauty of a park is best experienced outdoors. But not this time.

That’s because the city Parks Dept. this month unveiled — at two indoor locations — “A Salute to Queens Parks,” a photography exhibit featuring 50 winning images taken by local residents for the photography contest celebrating Queens parks.

Spiro Fourniotis, whose photograph of Oakland Lake in Alley Pond Park, is the Grand Prize Winner. Here’s the winning shot. For a moment there, I thought the judges were confusing Lake George for Oakland Lake, but since I’ve had at least a few great times at this very spot, I can say it’s the real thing.
