We’re in a bit of shock in my home today at the sudden death of Bobby Fischer, age 64. For many people, the renowned chess grandmaster and eccentric (and anti-Semite) was like a family member gone awry, a source of endless fascination and discussion. One of my partner’s personal claim-to-fame moments is that he once played Fischer in Washington Square Park.

Here’s a photo of Fischer and Susan Polgar, one of the greatest female players of all time, who runs the Polgar Chess Center in Forest Hills.

Photo from Susan Polgar’s photo blog. Her blog is a good place to go to get more information about Fischer’s life and death.
