An Eye for an Eye

Is a community, or at least extended family, intervention called for in the case of the shooting of Forest Hills dentist Daniel Malakov? For starters, see this post on Splitting Hairs from a few weeks ago. Then, in the Daily News, these choice quotes were included in their coverage of the arrest of almost-ex-wife Dr. Mazoltuv Borukhova

Late last night Malakov’s parents and dozens of relatives waited outside the precinct for Borukhova to come out chanting, “We want justice” and “We hope you’re ripped to pieces in prison.”

Malakov’s father, Khaiko, said of his former daughter-in law: “She killed, she has to die.”

Lastly, one thing I hadn’t seen until yesterday was a piece on how, back in the fall, Barokhova was planning on protesting in front of the White House about the custody arrangement for the ex-couple’s little girl, as dictated by the court. On the one hand, she might have a point; Bush has been known to involve himself inappropriately in the personal lives of people. On the other hand, this is truly not understanding how things work and therefore taking “justice” into your own hands through desperate measures.
