Tierra Sana Is Now Open

February 21, 2008 at 8:49 am 1 comment

Continuing with our borderline-obsessive coverage of Tierra Sana, there’s good news: It has pulled off the newspaper from its windows and is open as of 11:30 today. Call these the preview days, since the place isn’t 100% done, but it’s close enough to be THE destination for all who have been unceasingly curious about it these past few months. For free-food mongers, Tierra Sana is celebrating today with samples of their menu.

Splitting Hairs did a quick look-see of the place this morning and noted only good things. The layout, tables, and lounge area are in good taste (on par with Theater Cafe on Metropolitan), as are the ever-important bathrooms. The menu is chock full of light and breezy fare—wraps, soups, salads, smoothies, coffee/tea, plus a few hot foods like sauteed broccoli with garlic and almond butter, eggplant stew, and whole grain pizza. Not a lick of meat on the premises.

Everything is health-oriented, much of it is organic, and the total package is long overdue in Forest Hills.

Tierra Sana, 100-17 Queens Blvd. 718-830-0544
Monday-Thursday 7 a.m.–10 p.m.
Sat 8/11:30; Sun 10/9

This is a terrific find and I would not have known about it except for this site. Stopping by on my way home last night, I was met with a cheerful staff and took my Tex-Mex wrap to go, longingly wishing I could sit on the sofa by their fireplace and truly warm up in this cozy little cafe. Tierra Sana will not disappoint and has the potential for being the Cheers of the FH Splitting Hairs community. ‘See you there.
