This Is How Rumors Start

Indulge me for a few moments while I wax delusional.

The thought of a Shake Shack in Forest Hills causes me to condense with excitement. It’s not as far-fetched as it sounds since it looks promising that there will be one at Citi Field (otherwise known as Shea Stadium), if Danny Meyer’s teases are to be taken for more than just words.

Hypothetical scenario: Let’s say the Shea Shack is up and running and Danny comes out to do an on-site inspection some Friday or Sunday afternoon. The Grand Central Parkway is constipated with cars going to/coming from the Hamptons, so Danny knows he’s not going anywhere for a while. He decides to kill some time in Forest Hills because aside from the Shea Shack, what else is there to do at Citi Field? Please don’t say, “Um, watch a baseball game.”

Before you roll your eyes, consider the soon-to-arrive Bonfire Grill (scheduled to open 3/10ish), Trader Joe’s, and whatever is going to occupy the Staubach development site, which I assure you will be no slouch retail outpost. Friends, in five years what started out as a blog dream might be our reality. So next time someone asks you why you live “out there” in Forest Hills, tell them, “Because, um, out here is the next big thing.”
