LIC Needs a Munch

Racked reports today on how Long Island City will not be getting a Starbucks after all. For our purposes, we of limited Forest Hills perspective, there’s this money quote:

According to a Racked source, the coffee chain has reneged on its deal with Rockrose: “They had a sweetheart deal with Rockrose in the new East Coast towers and they bailed on it [no reason]. I would say their expansion plans in the outer boroughs is very limited at best. The Jackson Heights deal must have squeaked by their axe.”

Limited, that is, to a monopolizing cluster of 6-and-counting in Forest Hills and then one every three miles or so after that. LIC will live, and quite well, because it has one of the few branches of Brasil Coffee House where they make pretty good coffee and play excellent (you guessed it) Brazilian music. It’s also right across the street from the Subdivision art gallery, which stages art exhibits but also sells jewelry, clothing, and bags by local designers, all of it pretty fab though not cheap.

So glad to read your comment. Honestly, blogging is a lot like felling trees in the forest–you’re never quite sure who, if anyone, hears it.
