Spring Cleaning—a place to dump it all

Now there’s no excuse for holding on to much of your no-longer-used stuff. The NYC Dept. of Sanitation 2008 Spring Cleaning Event is coming up soon—May 3. I can’t wait to have less and know that someone might be able to get some further use out of my gently used things.

Below is a list of those things the DoS will accept:

  • Computers and laptops, monitors, printers and scanners (desktop only), keyboards and mice, TVs, VCRs, DVD, and VDR players, cell phones. Other kinds of electronics won’t be accepted. (You actually can legally discard unwanted or broken electronics (computers, monitors, TVs) in the trash, but recycling them on this day keeps then out of the waste stream and environment.)
  • Clothing: pants, dresses, shirts, sweaters, shoes, handbags, belts.
  • Linens: blankets, towels, sheets, curtains, tablecloths.

Place all in plastic bags and tie securely to avoid moisture contamination.

Tax deduction receipts will be available from Goodwill upon request.

Only donate clean, gently used items. Other types of household items will not be accepted.

May 3, 8 a.m–2 p.m. at St. Johns University

Alumni Hall parking lot (corner of Utopia Pkwy and Union Turnpike); cars enter at Gate 4 on Union Tnpk. and 175 St.

Entry filed under: environment, Forest Hills, resource.
