This is a very cool event (organized by terrific people) that Forest Hills residents might be interested in because it involves a poetry contest that any student in Queens grades 6–12 can enter. But go fast—the deadline is approaching.

POETRY FESTIVAL The Jackson Heights Poetry Festival is a 3 day event involving workshops taught by professors and poets, a poetry slam, and a series of poetry readings. A poetry contest for students in grades 6 – 12, will also be conducted, with the winners presenting their poetry in public readings during the Festival.

POETRY CONTEST The Jackson Heights Poetry Contest will be held in public and private middle and high schools throughout Queens. All students grades 6 – 12 are invited to submit their work. English submissions are preferred. We welcome poems in other languages with an English translation provided. Online submissions are due by Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Finalists will be announced online May 1, 2008.
