Forest Hills Round Up

Oh yes, the cherry trees are blossoming and so are the stories in our town.

  • Austin Street makes the big time by being selected for inclusion in Time Out NY’s “The Best Streets” profile. Ca-ching!—your apartment’s value just went up another $10K (if only…).
  1. Orchard St, Lower East Side
  2. Broadway, Soho
  3. Lafayette St, Soho
  4. Broadway, Upper West Side
  5. Court and Smith Sts, Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill, Brooklyn
  6. North 6th St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
  7. Pit stop: Designer discounters
  8. Atlantic Ave, Boerum Hill, Brooklyn
  9. Austin St, Forest Hills, Queen
  • As chronicled in the Queens Chronicle, Woodhaven Blvd. is going to look just like any other suburban strip-mall byway you can think of. Hate to say it, but protesting isn’t going to help.
  • After a short break, Foresthills72 returned (whew, I was getting lonely), reinstated anonymous comments (brave man), and presented a poll to pick a name for Melinda Katz’s baby. Good fun or Good ol’ boy humor falls flat? Lively commenters were of both minds.
  • See David Quintana’s letter to the Queens Tribune re: the benefits to Queens of congestion pricing not passing. Much as I was a supporter of CP, the very groundswell of passion that showed on both sides of the debate may yet result in something being done. Sometimes that’s what it takes: a big idea that can’t ever be clears the path for smaller ideas that can more easily fall into place.

Here’s wishing everyone a good week!

Your blog is so wonderfully positive! On congestion pricing, your respectful reaction to the opposition was a breath of fresh air. So many people think the most important thing is to push their own agendas, when what this world really needs is people who can overcome differences and work together with others. Thank you!
